I don’t like to talk about politics, because people get so heated over them, and I am not the type of person to be defined by something as meaningless as political views, which is why I am embarrassingly easy to get along with. So if you’re not getting along with me, you’re probably the issue.
One thing I do value, which shouldn’t be political, but seems to be increasingly headed in that direction, is simple logic. So when a certain political viewpoint defies its own logic, I can’t help but point out the irony. (For example, being vegan and pro-choice at the same time.)
People often mistake this for me having a stance. The truth is, I have very few stances that I’m married to. I like to keep an open mind, and it’s literally impossible to do that if you’re tied down by strong opinions. In my experience, those with the loudest opinions are usually the most hypocritical and narrow-minded people that exist. Those who keep an open mind and don’t attach themselves firmly to any one way of thinking tend to be some of the most beautiful souls, because when they are truly passionate about something, it lights them up and that light becomes a beacon of hope for others. In contrast, being angry about something and calling it passion just causes people to avoid you and everyone who might be considered part of your group.
These days, I don’t say much, because such a large percentage of the world’s population are the angry, opinionated type, so even if I’m just a neutral observer noticing the irony, I still get cast as the opposition (in other words, getting harassed and threatened). So why say anything at all?
Sometimes I feel like I’m the only sane person left on Earth, which I guess makes me the crazy one… because if crazy is the norm, then rationality must seem like insanity.
